How to Play Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe
❶ The Board Layout
You see a 3×3 grid of smaller Tic-Tac-Toe boards (so 9 small boards in total).

❷ Your Turn & Active Board

• At any time only one of the nine small boards is “active” (outlined in red).
• You must play your mark (X or O) in any empty cell within that active small board.

❸ Sending Your Opponent

• When you place your mark in cell (row, col) of the current small board, your opponent’s next move must be in the small board at position (row, col) in the big grid.
• If that target small board is already won or full, your opponent may play anywhere on the board.

❹ Winning a Small Board

• You claim a small board by getting three in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally) on that 3×3.
• Once claimed, it’s marked as yours and no further moves go there.

❺ Global Victory

• Think of each small board as a single cell in a larger 3×3 “meta-board.”
• You win the game by winning three small boards in a row on the big grid (horizontally, vertically or diagonally).

❻ Draws & Full Boards

• If a small board fills up without a winner, it’s a draw and counts as neutral.
• If every small board is finished without any player securing three in a row on the big grid, the game is a draw.

Quick Tips
📍 Plan ahead: Your move both scores a small board cell and dictates where your opponent goes next.

🔄 Chain reactions: Forcing your opponent into a bad small board can give you two advantages at once—control of that board and freedom on your next turn if it’s full.

⚠️ Avoid sending them to a small board where they can win immediately!
