Fasting in language is taken from Arabic صَامَ – يَصُوْمُ – صَوْمًا – وَصِيَامًا which means to hold back from something.

Meanwhile, according to the terminology of the shari'ah, it is worship of Allah by refraining from eating, drinking, and all things that invalidate fasting with the intention of worshiping Allah from the rising of the second dawn until the setting of the sun for certain people with certain conditions.
